I keep telling myself I’ll only do one speed challenge per weekend but this was a long weekend so I guess a second puzzle is ok? I sure didn’t do myself any favours though because this was a pretty tough challenge. Importantly though, it’s the first time I’m completing a speed puzzle from a brand other than Ravensburger! The pieces didn’t fit together quite as tightly, but the risk of a false-fit was much lower and there was virtually no puzzle dust so I was very pleased with the puzzling experience overall. In terms of speed though… not quite as simple.

I knew from the word go that this would be a challenge. First, the image is based on a painting, so where I’m used to having very clear lines between elements, now I have to deal with brush strokes that tend to blur everything together. Second, there aren’t a ton of colours in this puzzle. Which is not to say that it’s not colourful; it just happens to be a lot of the same colours and when all the pieces are mixed together it’s extremely hard to tell whether the brown-ish corner of a piece is from the bridge, the house, the riverbed, or the trees. The sky was the first part I tackled, and by far the easiest, but from there everything looked the same and it was very difficult to go through the pieces and pick out a specific colour. I’m happy with how I handled it though, and I kept my cool and switched frequently between sections to work on.

Before I tackle this one again, I think I’d enjoy doing it slowly and taking the time to really study the image. I know I can get better a better time eventually, but I think I need to practice slowly first. Also, fun fact, this puzzle had never been logged on the MySpeedPuzzling website, so now I get to say that I was the very first person to enter my time for a puzzle, which I think is pretty cool.

Finished puzzle showing a cabin surrounded by woods, mountains, and a river.
