There’s something about completing a puzzle that really makes you appreciate the image you just put together. If it’s an illustration, you’re keenly aware of how many colours there are and how well they’re separated, or how many times a particular motif is repeated. If it’s a picture, you notice exactly how clear or blurry different parts of the image are, and can tell exactly which areas are in focus, and which aren’t. When the image is an artwork, like a painting, you notice all the small details that you may otherwise have missed, like tiny moths floating around a vase of flowers. Even if a particular puzzle isn’t something that speaks to you, by putting all the pieces together you become intimately familiar with the image and can never quite look at it the same way again.
