I’m never quite sure if it’s a good idea to speed puzzle twice in the same weekend, but I was rather emboldened by my success with the Joffres Lake Park and decided to tackle my second landscape puzzle the very next day. I know some of the pro puzzlers out there can complete multiple puzzles a day for several days straight, but I still have a ways to go until I’ve built up that kind of stamina and my main concern at this stage is not to burn myself out and keep the challenge a fun experience.

Whereas my previous landscape had more colours than I expected, this one had fewer. The blue of the sky and the blue of the mountain are relatively easy to tell apart, but form there it’s just a whole lot of blue, a whole lot of grey, and a whole lot of trees. I started with the border first since nothing else seemed more promising, and then focused on the pieces where I had a bit of sky and a bit of mountain in order to draw the line between those areas. From there, I was able to fill out the sky fairly quickly before moving on to the trees. Here as well, I started with the pieces that separate the trees from the mountain to create a more contained working space. There were only a few evergreens, which were a good place to go next, and for the orange trees I just had to take my time and look for any difference in texture for a clue as to were the pieces might go.

In the time it took me to complete my previous landscape (roughly an hour), I only had one part of this puzzle left to do. Unfortunately, that remaining part was the mountain, and all the pieces looked virtually the same. It was certainly an uphill battle, but piece by piece and slowly but surely I eventually made it to the end. I’m not disappointed with my result, but I know that with practice I can definitely get a faster time. The mountain pieces may look similar, but there are some small differences and as I get better at spotting those differences it’ll make it easier to split the mountain into manageable chunks rather than trying to complete the whole thing at the same time. Although this one was a lot harder, I’m still rather pleased with my dive into landscape puzzles and will be a bit more confident when I attack the next ones.
