2025-09-20 part 2
As mentioned in the previous post, I was a bit overleazous this weekend and couldn’t seem to stop puzzling. After the last image was particularly busy, I was hoping for something a bit simpler this time. I suppose I should have been careful what I wished for…
During the 2025 World Jigsaw Puzzle Championship, some of the rounds gave the participants the choice between multiple puzzles. The one I tried today was one of the options, and for some reason virtually none of the teams chose the butterly. Why? Well, I found out today. Sure, it’s a lot less busy than the Cubby Cats, but that sure doesn’t make it easier. If we estimate that the butterfly takes up a bit less than half the image, that means it’s toughly 200 pieces of yellow and black with very few clues as to how they go together. If there’s a trick to this one I’d like to learn it, because it was a struggle from start to finish.
I did get the chance to practice a lot of shape sorting this time around. Once I had completed all the obvious parts of the butterfly, I organized my remaining yellow and black pieces by shape so I wouldn’t have to look through so many to find the one I was looking for. Likewise, once I was down to the last 20 or so pink or green pieces, I shape sorted those too to make it a bit easier on myself. This was my slowest puzzle yet, although I have to keep in mind it was my second in the same day. I will definitely try this one again, but not until I feel I’ve gotten considerably faster. Once I’ve finished a speed challenge I like to look at the completion times on the MySpeedPuzzling website to see how I compare to the average. The fastest completion time for the pizzule, which feels a little surreal, is 38 minutes and 13 seconds. I’m not too far off the average though, which is 1 hour and 42 minutes.
